Arena ranking and points

The zero-point payout is because you fought somebody who was significantly below you in points. I realize that it looks broken, though, so we'll change the minimum point payout to one point.

The reason your rank dropped is likely because of other people gaining points while you were battling.

    Aaron,

Just to clarify... difference in rankings determines the point payout not the difference in power?

    Correct!

Thank you! Do you happen to know how 'Unranked' payouts are determined? Does defeating a player ranked 500th versus 5th payout the same since you technically have no value while unranked?

Sorry, to be clear, the difference in POINTS determines the point payout, not the ranking itself. Unranked means zero points, so the payout is determined by the point difference between 0 and whatever the other player has.

Once ‘locked’ why do you constantly drop in ranking? The way arena is set up is seriously flawed.

You can only do a limited number of battles per day to gain points, but once you've done all your battles, other people can still do theirs and get more points.

Five battles to be exact. After that you need to wait until the reset.

The points system is jacked. I have 6900 power and beat 8100 power player and only got 5 points. I have beaten 4000 power players and received 100 points. Please fix this

It isn't based on power but rather the difference in points. For example if you beat somebody with a total of 290 points and you have 200 you will score 90. Conversely, if you beat somebody that has less points than you, you score zero points. Hope this helps.

EDIT: This mechanic was working properly until just now. I fought the #1 player who had 300 points (I had 200). I should have earned 100 points, but only received 11. Now I am thoroughly confused, or the mechanics are broken.

Dave - B is correct, the points are based on the point difference between the two players, not your team power.

B.From.The.LBC - What was your rank when you won against the #1 player? The top 25 players' point payouts are calculated differently, but I can see that we may need to change that.

I was unaware of that added mechanic. I think I was higher than #25 sitting on 200 pts. Found the #1 player who had 300 pts expecting the 100 point payout upon a win but was surprised when I only received 11 pts. Do you know how the point payouts are calculated within the top 25 Aaron? Thx!

You should be getting around ten points per battle in the top 25.

We expected our points system to work out a bit differently with a ton of players playing it. We're currently discussing how we can improve it quickly.

I dunno if it fits within the game’s economy, but I would happily grind the arena - 5 matches a day is quite few ...

Also, I dunno why grinding arena can’t earn energy for Dolt/Calamity Club ... and I would love to see card tokens for arena rewards, too ... if the GPK property includes hundreds of cards, seems like sprinkling tokens around would maybe drive people to drop a few more $$$ ...

    @Aaron

So the best strategy is to stay out of the top 25 until arena battle #5?

Thanks again for addressing everyone in this growing forum too.

Unfortunately, that can be the best strategy. We're working behind the scenes to figure out what changes we can make to PvP to keep things interesting and competitive and perhaps make them a bit more intuitive as well.

Something is seriously fuggled with the arena rankings. I just won my first match of the day against rank 36, and I earned zero points and dropped ranks (160-something ...).

I've tried to figure out how Arena scores work, but I've just given up at this point.

How can you drop ranks if it's your first battle of the day? You start each day unranked.

That being said, you shouldn't be able to earn zero points on your first battle.

Dunno, Aaron. After winning my first match of the day - at like 4 a.m. - it said I dropped ranks in the victory screen. Second match went fine, earned 100 pts... 🤷‍♂️

K - this is kinda absurd: cycled through dozens of matches to find the highest rank, then challenged the highest rank I could find - no. 109 - and won. Then, on victory screen I was told I earned zero points and dropped from rank 104 to 260.

    🤦‍♂️

Just had match crash in arena. So, three trashed matches today all due to bugs. First world problems, I realize, but still, not peachy ... 😤

Crashed again. That’s 1 for 4. And I’m robbed of arena awards by bugs. 🤦‍♂️

A lot of this stuff should have been caught in beta.

At least you are in the game.....mine has been poking the damn server for hours. I can’t even battle for it to crash

I'd like to agree, but the character vs. character ability issues are hard to catch because every change to the battle system would require testing every character vs every other character and using every ability, which is like... ~45 characters / 5 per team = 9 teams vs 9 teams = at least 81 battles if you try to get every combination x 5 minutes average per battle = 405 minutes or 6.75 hours, or basically an entire workday of work. And that's not counting testing every variation of every ability, which would mean you'd have to have 90 teams instead of 9... you get the idea.

edit: Also, we did catch a lot of these already :)

Dave Oski - have you tried to force-quit and re-open the game?

Actually, can you see what happens if you turn off Game Center and open the game? If my theory is correct, it should start you with a new account but work just fine. (This will not permanently lose your account; If you turn Game Center back on it will attempt to reconnect to the account.)
