Arena tweak in 1.0.4? -
Although there was no post for the release of 1.0.4, release notes indicate that a minor tweak was added to Arena => "Improvements to matchmaking in the Arena make it easier to find tough opponents for maximum points."
This has not, however, been my experience - I still run up against a match-making point-wall and cannot challenge at a high enough rank to earn "maximum points". For example, if I'm looking for someone with 160+ points to pull the maximum 100 points from a match, match-maker will only match me with someone with 145 points - and this difference adds up to a big gap after five matches.
I also find that the timing of my first match has a *massive* impact - the few times that I've been up crazy late and have knocked out the first match of the day I've had a much easier time scoring more highly.
Why can't I challenge whomever I like? If I win, earn the maximum 100 points - up to a max of 500 - how does that break the economy of points in Arena? There needs to be some other factor, of course, because oodles of players at the same score should not be getting different rewards (unless the rewards are tiered). I agree with those who have pushed for the inclusion of the no. of cards unlocked, their combined level + *s as a factor in scoring. There needs to be some encouragement to grind cards/levels. As is, there isn't.
Notwithstanding, I haven't seen Tadpole - or anyone else - exploiting a bug to pull crazy points in 1.0.4. Maybe they plugged that gap?

Follow-up for case in point: first match of the day the highest ranked player I could get matched with = rank 59, with ?? points. Rank no. 50 has 70+ points and since I cannot see how many points rank 59 has I have to hope it’s close to 60... after winning, I earn 75 points, and then match maker offers matches in the 40s - far less points than the 60+ needed to pull the maximum 100.
Meanwhile, there are already two 500s, so ... 🤦♂️
Pretty much every day it’s the same few pulling 500. And it’s been this way for months, so clearly Jago doesn’t care... 🤷♂️
